THINGS I AM GRATEFUL FOR:

PEOPLE! [livejournal.com profile] bratanimus (whose birthday was yesterday- hope it was special, hon!), [livejournal.com profile] benchilada (whose birthday is today- hope it's awesome), Sofia Alexia Smith (born yesterday to my cousin Stan and his wife Sandy), family, and friends.

THINGS! The usual- a great apartment, and stuff I can't talk about because I don't want to jinx them (three letters, starts with "j"), over a year behind the wheel of the Cullenmobile, and... other... stuff?

OTHER... THINGS! Health (a 4th diagnosis that seems to have been spot on, because my first PT session was FABULOUS).

HAVE A GREAT THANKSGIVING!
If you are traveling, may you arrive safely, and if you're staying home, enjoy the warmth and good humor of the season!
NOTE: There are no sparkles, because my sparkle source has mysteriously disappeared. If anyone has sparkles, share? Plz? I miss them.

Off to the farm for the weekend. See you Monday! :D

Happy Thanksgiving from the land of No Turkey! (Did you ever try to do Thanksgiving when you were here? I'll probably go out for some big ol' tonkatsu or something, lol.)

Hope you have a great and relaxing weekend at the farm.

And, a helpful diagnosis and effective PT? This is good news!!

Ooh, tonkatsu sounds LOVELY. I miss it! There was this place in Kyoto that is known for it. *tears up* In the absence of that, grab a Naran deer and roast it over a fire. There's a place in Nagano that does a nice deer roast, actually, but you have to bag your own critter and I can't even finish that thought because I'm laughing too hard at the thought of the HORRIFIED LOOKS this would get from my older Japanese friends.

Srsly, a bunch of us usually got together and went in on a turkey and the trimmings, potluck style- you have to poke around at the foreign food shops, but someone WILL have something. In fact, you might have more canned pumpkin there than we do here (there's a shortage Stateside, according to the paper). Whatever you end up doing, HAVE FUN!

And thanks! Looking forward to loading up and getting on the road this afternoon. Usually I stay later than I intend to at work, but NOT THIS YEAR.

And, a helpful diagnosis and effective PT? This is good news!!

Thanks! I found an in-network PT near the subway and he listened, took notes, did a more comprehensive eval than the ortho guy, and then brought out the plastic model skeleton and said, "The area you pointed to on your body where it hurts is *here*" (points to hip joint) "And when you said that I thought of *sth*" and then he sent me off to work with a therapist for a bit, cracked my joints for me, wrote me a note and suggested I come back next week. I have 5 pages of exercises to do 2-3 times a day (so far FAIL- catching up on my sleep has dominated my time) and best of all NO. DRUGS. He said that muscle relaxants are the best thing, but only when necessary. "Necessary" for me is "bleeding out the ears", so that pleased me to no end. I feel so much better and I'm walking normally. Turns out I sit funny in my chair and that was a big part of what threw my muscles out of whack and lead to having an inflamed hip joint. Which is treatable in the extreme! That said, bummed I can't go 'boarding this weekend, but it's probably better if I don't. *sigh*

Still, walking without pain and sleeping through the night FTW!

Forgot to ask and didn't want to add to the length of my previous reply- are the leaves still out and all pretty? If so, I hope you can get a few hours in Arashiyama.

Turkey potluck thing sounds like great fun. I did actually imagine that if I went looking in Meidi-Ya or somewhere, there probably would be turkeys to be had, but I'm not that fussed about it -- especially since tonight (Wed) there was a party at the university for me. One of the professors went fishing and caught a WHOLE COOLER FULL of fish (buri), and a few of the grad students fixed everything from sashimi to yakizakana to TWO DIFFERENT kinds of nabe to butter-yaki with broccoli. I am stuffed full, and slightly tipsy, and it was fun, so this is enough Thanksgiving for me this year.

I like the sounds of your PT guy very much! And sitting in your chair sounds like something fixable, which is great news.

I'm in Fukuoka, so I won't be hanging around in Arashiyama much, lol. Around here the ginkgo leaves have gone all yellow, but that's about it -- there's a lot of green otherwise. I was up in Nara last weekend, and there I saw some red as well as yellow, but I don't think it's at peak yet. I'm going to Kobe for a linguistics conference this weekend (I think), so I'll see if Kansai's gotten any further along in a week.

That sounds like an AWESOME PARTY. Call that your Thanksgiving and it's cooler than anything else you could do. ♥

The PT guy was great- he's using a treatment that includes poking and scraping at my muscles with a metal tongue depressor (Graston, I think?) and the bruising is worth it. When those muscles stop clenching it's wonderful. To be in pain 24/7 for weeks and then suddenly walk without hurting is epic. I'm trying to avoid going up stairs, though, because I want things to settle down first- to get to my apartment I basically step up with my right and then pull up my left. Just to be on the safe side. Every doctor should know what this guy knows, imo.

Yeah, I remember you saying that, but even though it's a slog it's a shorter slog than the slog from here. *lol* Enjoy Kobe- if you can get to Tokyu Hands and the foreign food market (there's one up the street) and if you can get to the Sannomiya Shrine (http://www.orientalarchitecture.com/japan/kobe/sannomiya.php) do- it's right down the street from a gaming arcade and the train and it really sort of gives you a super special taste of the dichotomy between old and new (yeah, you've seen it before, but this is still fun stuff).

Man, I wish I could be there. Something tells me going with another person who knows the place pretty well would be a blast.

Wow, that PT sounds intense, but if it works it's worth it.

Thanks for the tip about the Sannomiya Shrine! I don't know Kobe very well at all -- I passed through once in about 1992 (and stayed in a very bug-infested YH, lol). My capsule hotel (ha! found one that takes women!) is in Ninomiya, so I may well have a chance to go exploring a little. I'll be meeting up with lots of Japanese linguists at the conference, though, so I think basically what will be happening is a LOT of drinking. This country is a bad influence on me. ;)

Oh, it would be so much fun to roam around with you here. Maybe we should all shoot for Eclipse in Tokyo next year? Heh. If only it weren't so far and so DAMN expensive to get here.

(I know you're at the farm now -- hope you're having a great time.)
