I can't wait to start singing and dancing and maybe even putting on the Ritz a little bit.

Stuff under cuts is short. And yes, second entry of the day. WHUT?!

1.) Chris Pine is rumored to be taking over as Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan. I posted about it on [livejournal.com profile] ontd_startrek (apologies to those flisters on that comm who are experiencing crossposting difficulties, but I'M REALLY EFFING THRILLED ABOUT THIS!) Paramount confirmed it in Variety and Yahoo! News had it on their front page yesterday, so obviously it's true. Obviously. (I'M BEING WILDLY OPTIMISTIC HERE. HUMOR ME.) That would be amazing- not only would it wipe the slate clean of all that Affleck-fail (he really needs to stick with directing) but now is the time for some Jack Ryan. He's the thinking Bond- a political animal with patriotic sensibilities, a love of family, etc. but not annoying in an overwrought Republican way. Frankly with all the shit going on in the world it's time he came back. I'm hoping Pine gets to play Ryan Jr. and they do "The Teeth of the Tiger". Actually, I don't care- any Ryan will do. ANY.

2.) Note to the folks who make "Glee"- please start making episodes that last for several days, because a mere 42 minutes cannot contain the awesomeness. Last night's episode? GENIUS. Cannot wait for next week and have pre-ordered the first season on DVD. (Cast was apparently in DC recently- WHY DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS???)

Jane Lynch is awesome- there was no Emma/Will last night, but it was still a great episode because they let Lynch's Sue Sylvester go wild. I think this show needs a short run- maybe 3 seasons- because beyond the subplots they've introduced (which can all be wrapped up rather neatly in a few episodes, imo) there's not much reason for it to go beyond that. Lessee, you've got Quinn/Finn's baby stuff, Terry finally coming clean to Will (that is a TRAINWRECK WAITING TO HAPPEN), the Emma/Ken thing is going to end in tears. Hot noisy ones. And maybe Sue getting booted if the Cheerios don't win another championship. What am I missing?

And the Puck and Quinn thing- I ship Quick or Pinn or whatever more than I ship Quinn/Finn. Way more. And I'm not a 'shipper. I just want Quick to happen because it squicks me out less, given Quinn's screeching over "Drizzle" and if you're looking at me funny just go watch the show because it's fun, 'kay?

3.) Oh, TVD, you're like a Twinkie. One that's been made from scratch by the Barefoot Contessa or something. I want to wave you off as fluff, but the fluff is so so good. Watched "You're Undead to Me" last Sunday while recovering from hellride.

Stefan telling Damon he'd be tossed in the family crypt and then "in 50 years we'll reevaluate" made me *lol* uncomfortably- between the two of them I'm a lot more scared of Stefan being the cool, calm collected psychopath trying to "train" his brother than I am of Damon going to town on the population of Mystic Falls (which still sounds like a soda company to me). I can see where things are headed- Damon's going to use Caroline to get to Elena, obviously, but even though I read the books I can't quite decide if TV!Damon is going for Elena because Stefan loves her (and he's jealous) or if Damon thinks Elena can redeem him (Damon). Maybe both?

I liked that Caroline was more aware- her bit about remembering things differently than Damon seems to want her to was compelling because she's clearly not meant to be robo-slut. I made the mistake of reading a blurb about the next episode in the paper and so I know Vicki lived (dammit). Is it weird that when Logan took the watch I was all "YOU CAN'T TAKE THAT. NOOOOO!" more because I was sorry for Jeremy than anything else- and I hate Jeremy. Liked that Bonnie started flipping out. FINALLY. And Jasmine Guy is Grams, which is just the best casting ever, imo. Looking forward to tonight's episode. REALLY need to get my old tv up and running so I can start taping these.

Random, but I had no idea the CW has a music page for their shows. Have you seen this? IT'S AWESOME.

4.) Reading "Touch of Dead"- I love the idea that CHarris wrote fanfic for her own series. :D

I've really, really tried to get into Glee, but I just can't. I think it has something to do with having been extremely involved in a high school music department in my day and not being able to suspend belief enough to deal with the fact that their rehearsals have higher-budged production values than the professional mainstage shows put on by the theater company for which I work. Yes, I know it's television and it's meant to be somewhat fantastical, but seriously.

That really is a brilliant idea on the CW website. Every network should have that. It's an everybody wins kind of situation.

Yes, I know it's television and it's meant to be somewhat fantastical, but seriously.

You just made my argument for me, so I'm going to go grab a cup of tea and when you're done duking it out with yourself you let me know, 'mkay?

And yeah- I was thrilled because between the sound effects of the car nearly catching fire and me being distracted by the show I wasn't hearing the lyrics, so finding that page and looking each song up on YouTube or iTunes lead me in the right direction. I spent $10 in one go! WORTH IT.

[identity profile] lillbet.livejournal.com 2009-10-15 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
*LOL* [livejournal.com profile] tiny_increments was in show choir in high school (not too long ago) and says it's pretty close- aside from the production values of course:

Of course I should mention, the music and performances on Glee is much better quality than we ever had, but that's what makes it a TV show and not a documentary, you know?

I was in choirs and music programs in college but that doesn't seem to hamper my enjoyment of the show, probably because I have moments when, in my head, I choreograph numbers like what they show onscreen. It's fantasy, pure and simple- no show choir, no matter how good, could bust out "Gold Digger" on the first try the way they did back in Ep. 2. But you know how in your head you pick things up like THAT? Total fantasy. :) *lol*

That said, I get how tv shows rarely capture the truth of what they're built on. Every time I watch a celeb or a show host in Japan I twitch. I was reading Food&Wine and the editor, Dana Cowin, was talking about looking for good Japanese food in NYC and I wanted to throw the mag across the room and cry when she said that while eating soba she understood Japanese culture better. NO, DARLING, YOU FUCKING WELL DO NOT GET THAT SORT OF INSIDE KNOWLEDGE FROM SIMPLY EATING THE FOOD IF THE AMBIANCE OF BLOND WOOD AND LAMINATED MENUS ANNOYS YOU SO MUCH YOU ARE IN DOUBT WHEN YOU WALK IN THE DOOR. FAIL.

[identity profile] andacus.livejournal.com 2009-10-15 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I am waiting with baited breath for Puck to just lose it and out the entire situation. I cannot wait.

[identity profile] lillbet.livejournal.com 2009-10-15 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty much. And you know it's going to be ugly since Quinn is so invested (DRIZZLE. *lmao*) and determined to DO THE RIGHT THING for his girlfriend of what, 3 months? Yikes.

I can't believe I haven't found an icon I like for this show yet.

Skipping the Glee part since I haven't seen last night's episode yet, but yay for liking it! One of my co-workers last week said she really didn't understand the appeal, so I interjected with "I was in Show Choir in high school - Glee is exactly what it's like." I was one of a few Rachels, we definitely had our Finn and a Quinn (complete with a pregnancy, but it actually was "Finn"s), and there were more than enough Mercedes and Tinas and Artys and Kurt-the-token-gay-boys.

My co-worker was slightly horrified that Glee is real life, but that's public high school for ya!

I was about to be all impressed there. *lol*

What hole has she been living in? I went to private school and it was even more bitchy and cutthroat (though since my school was so damn small we just had 3 groups- nerds, jocks, drama kids/artists. There were popular kids in each group, but no group of JUST POPULAR KIDS. Which I guess is sort of normal.

I love the show and the way the numbers just sort of come about organically. It's a little bit of fantasy, like when you watch "Singing in the Rain". It's an outward experience of an interior moment- like "Bust Your Windows".

Random question- when you hear music on that show you've not heard/you like and don't already own, do you go for the original or the cast version?

My friend uploads the songs from iTunes, so I just get them from her. I tend to like the cast versions of the hip-hop/R&B songs better, but the original versions of everything else. That is a gross generalization, though. I love the cast version of "Hate on Me" and "Don't Stop Believing" but really don't like the cast versions of "Bust Your Windows" (I don't really like the original version, either) and "Somebody to Love". *shrug*

I wonder about her sometimes. She asked what "sabbatical" meant a few weeks ago. How can you be a professional woman and not know what sabbatical means?

[identity profile] lillbet.livejournal.com 2009-10-15 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I looked for "Bust Your Windows" and liked it WAY less than the cast version. I've never heard "Hate on Me" so now I'm curious. Love the original of "Don't Stop Believin'" and nothing can replace it ever (we danced to it in 6th grade during ballroom lessons- foxtrot trauma!). I guess it's a toss up.

I'd never listened to "Halo" until "Vitamin D" and now I'm dying to hear Beyonce's version. :D

I wonder about her sometimes. She asked what "sabbatical" meant a few weeks ago. How can you be a professional woman and not know what sabbatical means?

Where to begin... *facepalm*

I'm going to be sad when Glee ends, because I just love it so. :)

[identity profile] lillbet.livejournal.com 2009-10-15 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, me too. Luckily the first season is out on DVD at the end of November (or was it December) of THIS YEAR.

I loved Pushing Daisies, but there has GOT to be a good screencap for a Glee "YAY!" icon somewhere...

[identity profile] abitofadork7.livejournal.com 2009-10-15 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG YES. XD

[identity profile] eumelkeks.livejournal.com 2009-10-15 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I was wondering, is Vicki a vampire now?

[identity profile] lillbet.livejournal.com 2009-10-15 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno. The show doesn't start for several hours.

(I don't think she was in the books, if you're looking for me to go all BOOK!NAZI.)

ETA: I'm guessing "no" because per Caroline's conversation with Damon an episode or two ago there hasn't been an exchange of blood. Unless it took place off camera, which we won't know about until there's EXPOSITION in tonight's episode.

I AM SO GOOD AT GUESSING THIS SHIT!

They're basically pulling a Jessica and beefing up the story because Damon is such a fan fave.

APPARENTLY NOT TAP SHOES YOU COULD HEAR! MAYBE SECRET TAP SHOES OF STEALTH AND PLOTTINESS. :p

[identity profile] lillbet.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
DUDE, YOUR ORIGINAL QUESTION, HOURS BEFORE THE SHOW AIRED, WAS: I was wondering, is Vicki a vampire now? AND I SAID NO. AND I WAS RIGHT. SHE WAS A VAMPIRE LATER. LIKE 30 MINUTES INTO THE EPISODE. SEMANTICS ARE MY FRIEND. ;p

BTW- Why did you ask me to spoil you? HAVE YOU NO SHAME?

I literally cannot wait for Glee to be shown here.

[identity profile] lillbet.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
And I cannot wait for you to see it. Not to assume (because that makes one an ass) but stupid and naive wench that I am, Kurt Hummel is absolutely adorable and snippy and wonderful and makes me think of you and I think he's a character you might enjoy.

I'm watching last night's Glee right now. I love this show.

I'm excited about seeing Chris Pine all over the place - enough to see a Tom Clancy movie ;)

[identity profile] lillbet.livejournal.com 2009-10-15 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Glee is a thousand kinds of awesome. It's high school the way we ish it were- finding your niche and excelling at being different is just... WIN.

I am excited about Jack Ryan coming back- I love that character. He was my first human fictional crush. Well, maybe my second after Peter Pevensie (before that was Bugs Bunny. SHUT. UP.). And the idea of Chris Pine doing the honors fills me with unimaginable glee. See? Back to Glee! XD

[identity profile] madeline871.livejournal.com 2009-10-15 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I've only read a handful of Clancy books, but isn't he going to be a little too young to play that part? Don't get me wrong, I won't mind looking at him though.

[identity profile] lillbet.livejournal.com 2009-10-15 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually no- I'm not sure, but there may be more than one book featuring a young Jack Ryan (Sum of All Fears much?) and there's also a book featuring THE SON OF RYAN and the NEPHEWS OF RYAN and a COUSIN OF RYAN working together as a security team. My vote is for that one.

And yes. Very easy on the eyes.
