lillbet: (Not "Twilight".)

[personal profile] eumelkeks is pimping Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" series, but I prefer Carrie Vaughn's Kitty Norville books.

Kitty Norville is a werewolf who tries to keep her secret as she hosts a call-in radio show in Denver about supernatural beasties and monsters. She lacks confidence except when she's behind the mic. It's not all warmth and fuzziness- there are recurring themes of rape and persecution. Kitty's journey is learning to come into her own as a werewolf and a person, finally becoming an alpha dog in her own pack and showing her detractors that she's not evil, just misunderstood.

Vaughn's webpage is here. One of the first Kitty Norville stories is here. There are also short stories to read if you poke around a bit (under, um, "Short Stories"), and she has a blog. She sounds like a cool person, methinks, (bit of a dork, but SHE HAS A CUTE DOGGIE!) and her books are very readable. Eh, I'll let you judge for yourself.

That's it :-)
