I Khan't stan' 'im.
Jul. 13th, 2009 11:41 amSo, the movie on Saturday. AFI is my new favorite place to see movies, partially because there's not a bad seat in the place, and partly because they're doing this 80's fest right now. They also have tribute serii (series... es?) to directors and actors, which means a week of Spielberg or whoever. Anyway, Khan highlights:
A staffer had us yelling "KHAAAAAN!" all together before the movie started and folks were primed for the moment. Everyone was very enthusiastic and clearly having fun, which was great.
For some reason, I remember the Seti Alpha V scene being much darker in tone, which is funny, because the bridge is darker than I remember- or maybe JJ's lensflare that has just warped my perception of lighting (and when it comes to lensflare, JJ has thoughts)?
I love Chekov's "Boh-tah-knee... Bay? Botany... ZOMG! IT'S THE BOTANY. BAY! DOOD! WE GOTTA JET!" moment, by the way- never have two more innocuous words been injected with such FEAR.
Bones had pants of win- DeForest Kelley gets more posthumous props for wearing space chaps.
JJ must have loved this movie as much as I do because he does a few callbacks to it in XI, which makes me hopeful that Carol Marcus will reappear at some point (apparently there was supposed to be a scene of her meeting Kirk in the reboot, but it got... booted).
Anyway, all jazzed about the movie. I remember I loved the first one too. Persis Khambatta was AWESOME. (I was surprised that Stephen Collins was Willard Decker, and even more surprised that Jeffrey Dean Morgan appeared in an episode... seriously, I could spend hours on this site.)
