Deliciousness!

Today did not turn out the way I'd hoped- it's raining and I'm not feeling very energetic- but I managed to make a rather good meal with the roasted red pepper pesto I made last night while on the phone with
zomgjess. Recipe here.
Thoughts on "Vampire Diaries", Ep. 3 "Friday Night Bites" (har.)- not as zingy as the first two episodes. The relationship forming between Elena and Stefan is sweet and all, but the episode was like some kind of diabetic coma punctuated by DAMON! who is pretty frickin' awesome for an evil soulless thing. I like his "I eat when and who I like, thanksvmuch!" attitude because, I'm sorry, vampires ARE NOT CUDDLY. And while I don't hate Stefan, I keep thinking he's a bit of a dumbass for being so hung up on trying to be normal. The bit where Damon says, "Gee, Bro, I see what you're doing and if you can, maybe I-- BWHAHAHA! LOSER!" was excellent. Ian Somerhalder looks like a husky or a wolf- pretty and sleek with icy, dead eyes. And to quote Sue Sylvester, his resentment is delicious- every time he gets the smackdown (figurative or literal) from Elena it's just... gorgeous. Can't think of another word. Elena, in the meantime, is starting to realize something is up. Apparently Stefan doesn't have the cold touch of the undead and isn't all that pale, because it took him stopping a broken bottle with his hand (and all the blood disappearing) before she got an inkling something was wrong. Bonnie annoyed me a little (her response to Stefan at the dinner party was a bit too "*giggle* KEWL!" for me.) and the numbers things was a bit "Lost"-y until it got sorted. I liked Caroline's awesome bitchitude ("I mean really, do I look like someone who does dishes?"). I still have no thoughts about Jeremy- that whole thing between him and Vicky is getting boring already. SHE'S A SLUT. I GET IT. HE'S A DRUGGIE LOSER. GOT IT. WHERE IS THIS GOING? And like in the books, Matt is distressingly good and ridiculously kind even when his heart is getting stomped on. What evs. In the meantime, it's cute that Stefan's a joiner with his jock leanings. Elena's dream about Stefan and Damon was... interesting. I'm thinner than I've ever been in my life and shouldn't care, but I still want to forcefeed Nina Dobrev a sandwich. *lol*
FlashForward- WIN! The cast alone has me giggling with glee. Can't wait to see the next episode. Hope they keep it together long enough for the series to run its course. I'm curious about whether everyone's prophecies will be self-fulfilling (they saw it and will then make it happen) or if the pieces will fall into place for each person- I guess it will vary by storyline. Particularly interested in John Cho and Jack Davenport's storylines- sadly Joseph Fiennes, not so much. Sadly, because he seems to be the main character. *sigh* Dammit!
Also watching Merlin (thank you
eumelkeks!). Episode 2 was cute- FirstDate Arthur was so sweeet! And okay fine I can see him with Gwen. She is clearly going to have a hand in bringing out the king in him. Is okay by me. Merlin's rant about being pulled in different directions was good. Watching episode 1 in a bit.
Also, found some really BRILLIANT wine- bought it as a gift for my aunt an uncle for their birthdays tomorrow. She likes chocolate, he likes wine and I found a bottle of St. Michaels Chocolate Zinfandel. Seriously:
Chocolate Zinfandel
Off I go to do more birthday shopping! Have a good evening!

The sin ... is in the zin. Sumptuous chocolate mixed with oak-barreled Zinfandel equals “Mmmm.” Drink Chocolate Zin as an after-dinner delight, with chocolate mousse and raspberry sauce, or as dessert.
Might have to go back for another bottle for myself! Also, for your amusement, a recipe for Chocolate Zinfandel cake here.Off I go to do more birthday shopping! Have a good evening!

Date: 2009-09-27 03:10 am (UTC)And speaking of food blogs, you've been holding out on me! I had no idea you had one! *pouts*

Date: 2009-09-27 06:56 am (UTC)Awww, honey, don't be upset. Per the food blog: I never said I didn't have one. The link to that sucker's been on my journal since time immemorial. Having one together would still be fun, though- we could each tackle the same recipe and report on how they turned out. Hilarity would ensue!

Date: 2009-09-27 03:33 am (UTC)I have to agree with most of what you say. Am I supposed to know who this Katherine is that the brothers keep talking about? Obviously Damon's a little bitter and wants payback for something Stefan did - I get that much. I found it a little amusing how in one scene Stefan writing in his diary how there has to be some humanity in his brother, but then he goes and eats the football coach and suddenly Damon's lost for good.

Date: 2009-09-27 07:00 am (UTC)Katherine is a girl both boys shared who died rather than choose between them. She's the one who turned them both and gave them the giant rings they wear that protect them from sunlight. Damon is annoyed because he doesn't have a hunting partner since Katherine died because Stefan doesn't want to play with him and drink human blood (Stefan doesn't like to hurt people and goes for animals instead). Some of the best lines regarding Stefan's vegetarianism (har.) are in the pilot toward the end. (Katherine is important, by the way, not just because she hangs over the brothers and Elena like a spectoral... something or other but because the circumstances of her death are very mysterious. WOOOOO!)
And yeah, Stefan gave up on his brother right quick. It's all fun and games until someone gets their throat torn out. Whatever happened to forgiveness, damned things?

Date: 2009-09-27 01:49 pm (UTC)I was thinking of checking out FlashForward (Dominic Monaghan? John Cho? Hell yes!) and now I'm even more on board with that plan, haha!
Oh, and chocolate AND wine, all in one? I think I'm in love! ♥

Date: 2009-09-27 03:12 pm (UTC)*LOL* and your "Glee"/"TVD" crossover. PRICE. LESS.
"FlashForward" is good- they had a lot of ground to cover in the first episode and I think they did it well. The cast is up to it, hopefully the writers are to. This week is the test- the sophomore episode is always a toughie.
And me too! I am so tempted to keep this bottle, but giving it to someone else is almost more fun. Can't wait to see the looks on their faces when they unwrap it!
I just made a bunch of TVD icons over at my comm. Need to make a speshul one just for me to use here (by the time I've finished making a batch I'm a bit tired of what I've made and don't want any! *lol*).

Date: 2009-09-28 05:03 pm (UTC)Roasted pepper pesto sounds amazing. The peppers still seem to be flowing at our local farmers' market, so I may have to see what I can do along those lines next week.
Here's the trick with the chocolate Zin: Give it to your aunt and uncle at an occasion where they have to open it, so you get to try it too!
TV shows sound like fun. Someday maybe I will watch TV again, lol. (First stop: get that digital antenna! At least I've got the converter-box part...)

Date: 2009-09-29 12:16 pm (UTC)Ah, if only you'd messaged me sooner! I already gave them the Zin. The look on their faces told me I'd chosen well. It was a bit outside my budget, but lately I've been subscribing to the idea that giving things to folks I'd like to receive is the way to go. Chocolate wine is a win and a half.
TV is eating my life. I need a boyfriend. Xp
