1.) Got back from Kelli and Andy's dinner thing and caught the last 30 mins. of SNL. Oh. em. gee. you. guise.

I take back anything bad I may have ever said about Lady GaGa. She's fucking amazing. Fucking. Amazing. (Wait a minute, I don't think I've said anything bad about her. In fact, I think I raved about her performance at the VMAs. Anyway...)

She freestyled her last number (the costume was a kinetic sculpture and it was awesome... until she sat down at the piano) and did a skit with Andy Samberg (both of them in her infamous bubble dress) that made me laugh harder than I've laughed at SNL for a very. long. time.

And Ryan Reynolds was awesome too (and he brought the wifey). Sadly, I missed the weekly Jean K. Jean (ZOOTALORS, Y'ALL!- I've downloaded all of those on Hulu and they always kill me). I'm totally stalking Hulu for GaGa now. G*ddamn! This woman plays a mean pie-anner, has some seriously weird-ass costumes, and she sings so well live it's almost a letdown to listen to her on iTunes now. She's the consummate showman... person. Is she touring? I want tickets nao plz.

ETA: Okay, that sounded "raging fangirl", but it was written at 1am after a very long, eventful day. I'm not going to be writing fic or making icons, but I'm probably boing to give the rest of her CD a listen and try and catch her live at some point, because based on what I've seen, that would be an experience to have.

2.) ZOMG! THE KANGAROOI S SIGNIFICANT. I TOTALLY CALLED IT! MY NEW OTP IS BENFORD/MARSUPIAL!

ETA: Last week's episode "White to Play" featured an AWESOME bit where Chief Wedeck revealed what he was REALLY doing in his flash forward. I don't know where you can download it, but if you manage to find it, it's worth it- those little bits of unexpected humor are what will keep the show popular, imo.

SUCKTASTIC! Did YouTube give you any love or did you give up after Hulu treated you so heinously?

No GaGa for YouYou? ;)

Hey, no one is more shocked than I am. The woman sounds like a total flake (what- I've flipped through mags at the gym) but she can sing and she seems to have a sense of humor- how else can you explain her costumes?

Well, I actually love her. She is talented, and although her dress sense is bizarre and she comes across as slightly weird, she has a great voice. Her music is fun!

Lol about the sense of humour, I gotta agree!

I think my "problem" with her at first blush (although I liked "Let's Dance" after a few thousand listenings) was her public persona seemed very studied. Like she was trying too hard, maybe? Then again, I was impressed by the way she acknowledged that it as all pretty much for shits and giggles anyway and that performers are basically brands and hers was going to be as whacked out as possible.

Her studio stuff sounds very canned and manipulated, but having seen her "live" twice I have to say she comes across way better- it's as though she's a throwback to an era before recordings and auto-tuners, which is pretty awesome, imo, because lately it seems a lot of performers are fail personified in live shows.

Also, she did this skit with Andy Samberg in which they were both wearing the bubble dress and trying to kiss and I nearly died laughing.

Its possible that she may have come across that way, but she had probably been practising interviews for years just in case she hit the big time! *lol*

Yeah, I think she is in it to have a great time, and not take herself too seriously.

Her live stuff always sounds good - I love that about her!

Y. I can't believe it took me so long to get past the hype. I'm usually pretty open to new music, but she seemed like such a flaky weirdo who needed a synthesizer to sound good, but seeing her "live" has been such an eye-opener!

I saw that SNL and was shocked by how much I liked Lady GaGa as well. I mean, I was REALLY impressed. Her voice is awesome; her weird clothing, bleached hair, and drag queen makeup remind me of Dale Bozzio (http://media.photobucket.com/image/dale%20bozzio/joyvonspain/dale_bozzio.jpg) to the hundredth degree, and her dance routines and wearable sculptures are and funkily unsettling, in a good way. Yay for an artist who can surprise me! :D

Ooh! Thanks for that 80's flashback- and I'd be shocked if Lady GaGa weren't in some way influenced by Bozio. And "Metropolis"- the "Paparazzi" video and that last costume she performed in on Saturday, which I loved (though she probably wasn't thinking that she'd have to sit in front of the piano when she chose it). But totally well put- and it's great to be surprised again (and in a good way for a change).

I'm all about the 80s flashbacks, babe. Anytime you need one, just holler. ;)

Daniel thought the first dance routine was weird (for Paparazzi), but I thought it was spooky and cool. I do wish she'd taken the Rings of Saturn off her body before she sat down at the piano for her second performance, though, lol. I found it distracting.

Slowly amassing TVD icons, though I still haven't trolled through your stash yet. Saving the best for last. ;)

Speaking of icons, that one right there is purty. Where's the maker hanging her graphics hat now? (Yes, I stalked it- I'm an icon WHORE. *sobs*).

I still haven't seen the "Paparazzi" segment, but I'm hoping Hulu will give me some lurve shortly. And yeah, the kinetic ring thing was awesome, but one wrong move and she would have been in slices like a Dali. Xp

Who, [livejournal.com profile] belladora? I don't know. Did she move to DW? Speaking of, I can pretty well guarantee that I will not be moving there, simply because I am too lazy. ;)

one wrong move and she would have been in slices like a Dali. Xp

LOL, anything for performance art.

Did you see her catfight with Madonna on the Deep House Dish sketch? It could have been a LOT funnier if someone had actually choreographed the fight. As it was, it looked sloppy (says the former actor, lol). Also, Madonna Has Had Work Done. There, I've said it and I'm glad. ;) Though her bod is still to die for. :D

Ooh, that one's nice too! ♥ I checked out the maker and either you're her friend and can see more than I can, or she's no longer posting. Or she has a separate graphics comm that I couldn't see. I feel like a damn dirty stalker now. Speaking of DW, I no longer post there because while the ad-less journals are nice, I already have a paid journal here, with tons of icons, and I can't see the ads anyway. Besides which, there are folks on here I wouldn't want to lose touch with. ;)

LOL, anything for performance art.

Man, what a memorable way to go- bisected during SNL. I liked her improvised song on the piano, by the way, about whatever it was about (mostly the "I used to be a waitress- HOW YOU LIKE ME NAO?"). I'd love to hear her do jazz- I bet she could riff and scat skillfully.

I didn't see that skit in its entirety- it was on this morning but I just caught a glimpse and actually thought she was PLAYING Madonna. Oops. They must have had a ton of cameos last week. (A cynic might suggest it was all done to overshadow their weak start with Megan Fox, but I didn't find Megan all that objectionable, tbh.) And Madonna has been HAVING WORK DONE since the early 90's- anyone who says different is lying, and frankly I'm ashamed that I even care. Much as I'd like to look as good at her age, she's so rangey looking that I can sort of see what Guy Ritchie complained about- he once said that cuddling her was like hugging a bit of gristle. :p

No, I'm not her friend; and you're right, she didn't post those icons to her LJ. Looks like she just came out from lurking to post those icons. Either that or the person who posted the icons wrote the wrong name, lol. Anyway, I can try to find which comm she posted to if you want (it's one of the two TVD icon comms I joined. Look on my Member Of section if you're itching for the info, coz I gotta run pick up Dylan from Mom's Morning Out now. ;))

*showing off this icon, too* I ROTFL when Damon dissed Twilight. :D

Thanks, I will! And I lol'd too- all the promo material says "THESE BOOKS PRE-DATE TWILIGHT- HOLLA!" and that self-aware giggle that yes, they're on the bandwagon but a lot less ridiculous, was well-timed. It promises non-readers that the show won't go all weird on them and reassures the readers the same. Much love to the writers for that lil' rant-lett.

Have fun on the Mommy Track. ;) ♥

*LOL* Oops. That's funny though that the name is popular enough that there's more than one version.

BTW- Give up on Andi. She's decided that the show is worthless shit, which is funny as hell because one of her comments "My gripe with VD is that I just don't really care about the high school crap. Maybe I'm showing my age, but I don't like any of the people or their problems." makes just as much sense if you substitute the name of her favorite show (Gossip Girl "GG") for "VD". (Personally, if there were no vampires involved I wouldn't be wasting my time! *lol*)

She's not worthy of the Twilight sporkage in Ep. 4. NOT. WORTHY.

LOL, you sound just like me. A friend loaned me a book and I was disheartened when I realized that there were NO supernatural characters in it whatsoever. I was convinced for the first five chapters that there would be. :P

Eh, I'm so not a enough of a fangirl to understand her behavior- TVD is fluffy fun that brings back good memories of my gateway drug (to vampires) book experience and that's it. There are a few things that I'm not wild about, but it's not so bad as to justify all the kicking and screaming and "talk me into watching more" and "THIS SHOW SUCKS" and all the comments in my journal that sound like she's on the wrong end of a gang bang because it's SO PAINFUL TO WATCH. Yet she's posted about it twice. We talked the other night and I know she's being funny (part of the time), but frankly I'm starting to wish I'd never said anything to her about this show in the first place.

It's not like I've enjoyed everything she's suggested to me- SPN is okay, but I'm not really invested, and Gossip Girl is just... it's not bad, just not my thing, probably because it's a little too close to my high school experience and the characters aren't all that engaging, imo. But I'm not going on about it- it's TELEVISION. Who cares? *lol*

LOL, you sound just like me. A friend loaned me a book and I was disheartened when I realized that there were NO supernatural characters in it whatsoever. I was convinced for the first five chapters that there would be. :P

If you mean GG, yeah, I would be crushed as well. I thumbed through one of the books at the library and that book/show needs some demons. Or at least a succubus or two. *lol*

If you mean TVD, you might enjoy the next three books in the series- Smith is releasing them in the next year and one of the characters is a Japanese mystic who brings one of the brothers or Elena or someone back from the grave. Not my thing, but you might like it.

If you mean GG ...

No, my friend just loaned me a random book she's always loved. It's about a group of college students who murder someone. That's it. :/ What I wanted was vampires. ;) And there was SO much death/immortality symbolism in the book that I was CERTAIN that at least ONE character had to be a vampire. I am hopeless, lol.

I wouldn't be too hard on Andi. For some people fandoms are a way to stay connected with LJ pals, and when your friends branch off into new territory and you don't necessarily want to follow, it can feel a little sad. I can see how some people would do posts to ask for convincing evidence why they should jump on a particular fandom bandwagon. I'm speculating that that's why she's posted, but it's just a guess. :/ Anyhow, I didn't realize it was so personal to you. Don't take it seriously, if at all possible. Like you said, it's just a show. She can take it or leave it. And you've got lots of other friends to squee with! :)

My GAWD. You... you have THE MOMMY GENE. O.o

You're right, of course. This kind of stuff always happens to hit right when PMS is kicking my ass. And yeah, I'm chagrined that Andi isn't onboard (totes thought it would be up her alley what with the hotness and the vampire brother kink she says she's got). I know she's mostly joking around. I do wonder, though, whether she's right and it sucks so bad, but on the other hand, I'm just in it for the LULZ.

You know, if I were a real fangirl I wouldn't be full of such raging doubt, would I? NO! I'd be all "ZOMG! THIS IS AMAZING AND LOOK I MADE A FANMIX AND A MANIP AND HERE'S MY FIC!" *LMAO*

The books were cute, but that was years ago- I'm just enjoying a one hour flashback to my teen years every week. :)
